Unmarked c. 1890 rut niblick with a thick, small face and a stout 4 3/4" long hosel.  The sueded leather shaft appears old and original to the shaft. This is a heavy club.

If a golfer was spending much time trying to play their ball out of small holes or tracks, this club was the literal answer to getting out of that rut! Whatever nook and cranny a player might discover their ball in, this small but hefty clubhead was designed to let you play out with precision.

This club is unmarked with the name possible having been worn off.  Both Anderson of Anstruther, Robert White, and Robert Wilson made their rut irons with somewhat larger heads than are found on early Carrick, Gray, and Wilson rut irons.  It's quite possible that this clubhead was made by one of them. No matter who made it, its a very attractive club.
