This little mechanical device was designed to impress the name or intials of its owner into the side of a golf ball. The ball that is currently in the press appears to have been there a long time.  The auctioneer did not bother to take it out, preferring to leave things just as they are. The impression maker appears to be made out of cast iron and is marked Levy Leith on one side and "Pat. 20076"  This is a British patent number that dates prior to 1916, when all brritish patent numbers started over at "1" each new year.
