Stamped with a Copeland Spode mark on its base, this beautiful blue pitcher features golfers and more in white relief, raised above the shiny dark blue background, around its circumference.  It measures 5 1/4" tall and 3 1/2" across its base. The base is twice marked "Rd. 345322", which is a British registered design number that dates to the later part of 1899. This classical pitcher has survived for well over a century and remains in outstanding original condition. It is truly a beautiful work of art that will sparkle and enrich any collection.

An example of a Copeland Spode pitcher identical to the one offered here is shown on page 22 of Shirley and Jerry Sprung's "Decorative Golf Collectibles," published in 1991.  The Sprungs briefly comment on the company on page 23 as follows:

"Copeland-Spode is the modern name of a firm which dates to 1770 and follows the history of generations of Spodes and Copelands.  Josiah Spode I was the master potter at the Stoke-on-Trent factory still operated by Copeland-Spode today.  Josiah Spode II opened a showroom in London where he marketed the bone china he and his father had perfected.  After 1797, William Copeland managed the showroom, later succeeded by his son.  Despite numerous changes of name, Copeland-Spode products have been of consistently high quality throughout the firm's history."

Copeland Spode golf stoneware is very desirable. A fine piece.
