Forged by William Gibson of Kinghorn and marked with his star cleekmark, the back of this iron is also marked "Tyldesley & Holbrook, Manchester" (the retailing firm) and "James Braid" (who endorsed this club) in large script. James Braid was a
genuine legend in his own day. He won the British Open 5 times between 1901 and 1910. He was
part
of the Great Triumvirate, along with Harry Vardon and J.H. Taylor. Braid
went on to design or alter/remodel some 411 golf courses. The criss-cross "diamond" scoring in a square on this face is a seldom seen. Shaft and sheepskin grip are original.
