This rubber tee has a large circular piece of lead embedded in a larger circular rubber end, which is marked " Pat Apld For, Otto Eick, Originator".  The Manhattan Tee was patented in 1915 and is considered the first weighted rubber-arm tee, so the auctioneer suspects that Eick's tee was devised shortly after 1915.

The ball was to be placed on the red rubber portion of the tee that extends out of the top and bottom of the small end of the arm. Because this red rubber piece extended out the top and bottom of the small arm, Eick's entire tee could be turned over to provide a second location to tee up the ball.

The blue and white celluloid tee included in the picture is not part of this lot. It is included in the picture to provide perspective.
