With a face that measures an incredible 2 ¼ inches in depth, this jumbo driver was meant to be used! To keep the weight manageable, the crown slopes from the top of the face down to the back of the sole.  This results in a head that is triangular in cross section, the face, sole, and crown making up the three sides.  This club is not marked, but TCA2 Volume 2 page 617 documents another one of these clubs and it is stamped “W.L Ritchie, Addington, Special.”  The Ritchie Jumbo in TCA2 and this one are the only two such triangle head jumbo drivers the auctioneer has seen.  They were clearly made by the same British clubmaker.

The jumbo driver offered here has its original 43” shaft shaft and leather-wrapped grip.  The head still retains its original finish.

Another interesting feature of this club is the top 3 ¼ inches of the grip progressively gets larger as it approaches the end of the shaft.  This expanded portion of the grip fits right into the palm of the left hand and allows the golfer to really hold on when swinging full out.

Anybody who wants to own a giant niblick can own one.  But a "giant driver"? Such monstrosities are extremely hard to track down. This is a totally great club!

The Wonder Ball shown in the pictures for perspective is not included with this lot. It is sold seperately elsewhere in this auction.
