Crafted by the Bridgeport Gun Implement Company, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, this club is stamped "90" on the back of the neck near the sole. BGI's Model 90 is listed in its 1898 catalog as a "Straight-Faced Driver. A useful club for beginners because it has more hitting surface than the bulger. Until about ten years ago all drivers were straight-faced; now one never sees an experienced player using one."
The BGI straight-faced driver offered here shows little use. It has its original shaft with what looks like its original grip. The neck and grip whipping is replacement. Head and shaft are stamped "BGI Co". The head is also
stamped with BGI's rampant lion trademark.
A clean example.
