According to Kevin McGimpsy in his book The Story of the Golf Ball (p.185) “In 1894, Robert Forgan introduced a new ball called the Agrippa which had a revolutionary cover resembling a blackberry. Forgan called it the BRAMBLE pattern.”
The circular bramble pattern on this Agrippa 27 1/2 is not the six pole variety which came later. It's also a bit different the many Agrippas in that the letters and numbers all face the center of the pole. Most Agrippas the number faces away from the pole while the name faces the pole, so everything can be read without having to rotate the ball.
Another beautiful, historic ball!
This ball is top row center in the group shot in the accompanying images.
