This glove was used by Pate during a pro-am in the early 1980s. The consignor was fortunate enough to play with Jerry in that event and asked for his glove. His request was graciously granted.
Pate won the 1976 US Open and Canadian Open to earn rookie of the year and co-player of the year. He went on to win 8 tour events during his career. His 1982 Tournament Players victory was his last, at age 28, shoulder injuries curtailing his Tour career.
This Footjoy leather glove, preserved in zip lock bag for the years, smooths out nicely when you slip it on. The auctioneer will confess that it was fun to do that and reflect on Pate's heroic 5-iron shot at the 72nd hole, over the water to within 3 feet of a tucked pin, to seal his US Open victory.
