This glove was used by Lee Trevino during a pro-am in the early 1980s. The
consignor was fortunate enough to play with Lee in that event and
asked for his glove. His request was graciously granted.
Trevino's hall of fame career, capped with his six major championships, and his outgoing love for the game will ever place him on the list of the greatest golfers. The auctioneer once flew on a flight from Prestwick to Minneapolis with Trevino sitting across the isle! As a Northwest Airlines preferred flier, I had been bumped up to first class for my flight home from the summer auctions. Trevino, traveling with his daughter, had just missed the cut at the 1995 (?) British Open. I left this wonderful man alone, not wanting to bother him, but it was fun to be so close, nevertheless. Once in Minneapolis, while at the baggage claim waiting for our bags to arrive, I still kept my eye on him. Lee was off to the side joking and laughing it up with what turned into a large group of airport porters. And it was he who engaged them.
His Footjoy leather glove, preserved in zip lock bag for the years,
smooths out nicely when you slip it on. The auctioneer will confess
that it was fun to do that and reflect on the fact that Trevino wore this glove, and it even has the tape around the thumb that Trevino typically installed. Sorry to carry on, but I am a big fan!
