Beautiful full set of c. late 1920s George Nicoll 1-8 irons stamped "MacDonald Smith Duplicate, Stainless, MacDonald Smith, Geo. Nicoll, Leven, Scotland, etc.

The heads are also stamped "2 iron, 3 iron, 4 iron, 5 mashie iron, 6 mashie, 7 spade mashie, 8 mashie niblick, 9 niblick."

Born in Carnoustie, Scotland, MacDonald "Mac" Smith" was one of the top professional  golfers in the world from about 1910 into the mid-1930s. He won 25 PGA Tour events, including three Western Opens when it was considered a major championship. He never won a modern major but did, however, place in the top ten of a modern major 17 times, including as the runner up in one US Open and two British Opens. He played only 1 Masters and zero PGA championships, although he was inducted into the PGA Hall of Fame in 1954.

Long story short, Mac was a brilliant golfer. Back in the day, a duplicate set of his clubs would have been quite desirable, and the irons in this set are such—exact copies in outstanding original condition.
