The graduated tiers of linked chains on the surface of this ball was
obviously tied to The Link's advertisement as "the non-skid ball."
Promoted as made in 1913 by The Helsby Co (British Insulated & Helsby
Cables, Ltd), said company amalgamated with The Telegraph Manufacturing
Company a decade prior. This ball was also advertised as being made
from the finest Para rubber (windings), with a "cover unequaled for wear."
The white exterior paint on this ball has worn off across a good portion of the cover. The next layer underneath the white paint appears to be a thin black coating of some material. The layer underneath it is orange which the auctioneer believes to be a composite material.
This ball was not used much. The unique
chain-link pattern is still present and accounted for. The ball is genuine and still strikes a wonderful pose.
Ball is on the bottom right in the accompanying group image.
