Otto Hackbarth is best known to collectors for his famous forked-hosel putter.  Offered here, however is a bakspin mashie that bears the maker's stamp of Otto Hackbarth.  Stamped Mashie on its sole, this head was likely made by MacGregor (it's a MacGregor Bakspin stamp) for one of two reasons.  They either made it for Hackbarth to use himself, or they made it for him to shaft, grip, and sell.

The Hackbarth stamp itself looks more like a makers stamp as opposed to a personalized custom order. Then again, this stamp is extremely rare and not even listed in Peter Georgiady's comprehensive book Golf Club Cleek Marks and Trademarks, where one would expect to find it if it was a makers stamp.  Given also that the shaft is stamped "O. Hackbarth," the auctioneer thinks there is a good chance that this clubs was Otto's.  Either way, its a special iron.

Shaft measures 34 1/4 inches and the grip appears original to the club.  It was likely made with a finished leather surface which has been neatly sanded off, reverting the grip to a suede leather in appearance and feel.  Much nicer to hold in the auctioneers opinion.
