The amount of creativity in the world of antique golf clubs never ceases to surprise.  Without CAD programs and quarterly numbers to meet for stockholders, the old club makers were free to experiment and try whatever they thought might have a chance of moving the needle to gain market share.  They needed to actually make the club to see if it would work and determine if it had potential in the market.  And that gave rise to some wonderfully creative clubs like the Spalding putting cleek with its gigantic shaped wooden grip offered here.  

Like so many of the clubs in this auction, this Spalding putting cleek pushes the clubmaking envelop, and is it ever different! Not only is the grip made from wood, not only does it have a dramatic shape, it is is a veritable monster! It stands out a mile away and is beautifully crafted. The auctioneer has never seen another one of these, and does not expect to anytime soon!

The head is marked "cleek" because it has a little more loft than a typical putter. Hence, it is a putting cleek.
