Marked C. P. Co. Dixie on its back, this 11 1/4" plate with extra high rim was produced by the Chester Pottery Co. in Phoenixville, PA. Chester Pottery was established in 1894. This scene shows an old golfer wearing glasses addressing a mushroom while his ball is actually right between his legs. Leave it to the caddy to provide the written remark on the plate "Thems, Mushrooms."
The colors on this early 20th century plate are still rich and the image is in nice condition. There is the typical crazing often found on plates of this age. A delightful piece!
