Made by the Silvertown Company which had manufacturing locations in
both London, England, and Persan Beaumont, France, this 1890s Silvertown gutta percha golf ball has been used and bears a fair number of strike marks. But even so, this ball still looks attractive.
The evidence of use on this ball demonstrates the lengths golfers would go when using a cut ball. Cuts in a ball were not all that big of a deal back in the day. A ball was often used until it was either lost or heavily damaged.
This particular Silver Town is likely older than most. The name appears on
only one pole.
