Marked "Herb't Strong" on the crown, this 50-inch long fitting club is designed to help a golfer determine the correct length when custom-ordering a new club to their specifications.  At the grip end of the shaft, the shaft has a flat surface that is marked like a yardstick, in half-inch increments, from 24 to 49 1/2.  All any golfer needed to do was to grasp the club, position the head at what they felt was the optimum distance away from their body, and then look at the shaft directly above the heel of their left hand. They could then read the measurement on the shaft.

The flat surface on the shaft of this fitting club begins 23 1/2 inches above the head.  The flat surface then extends up to the very end of the shaft, which measures 50"  The club is in nice original condition and would make a great addition to any collection.  And yes, there were a few antique drivers that actually were 50" in length.  Walter Travis, three-time US Amateur and once British Amateur champion, tried playing with a 50-inch driver as was recounted in a Golf(ny) article titled "MR Travis's 50-inch clubs" published in May 1905.

When this club is held as if addressing a ball, its great length is crazy wild.
