Designed to offer the golfer an iron that had the feel of a wood, the Cran cleek was produced under an 1897 US Design Patent issued to James Cran. It was the 10th US patent issued for a golf club. This Cran cleek, however, was one of the first produced, made before the patent was issued.  The back of the head is stamped "The Spalding Cran, Patented June 8, 1897" but is faint in places, as shown in an image. "HW," the owner's initials, are stamped on the back of the toe.

The shaft measures 39" long with its original leather grip. The wood insert, held in by two screws on the back of the head, is original with a small chip at the end of the heel and small chip in the face.  Even so, the wood face is original and the club is still better than most Crans.  Nice all-original condition.
