Sir Walter G. Simpison's The Art of Golf is llustrated with plates from photographs and figure drawings;
steel-engraved vignette on the title page with tissue-guard. 8¾x5¾, 1892 Second Edition.
Early chapters include history, praise of the game, clubs and caddies;
the balance is instruction. Set of 20 ad pages in back dated February
1893. Simpson was a former captain of the Honourable Company of
Edinburgh Golfers.
The spine is missing some of its leather and the remaining leather is heavily worn and loose along a part of its font edge. There is a book plate on the inside front cover and on the front of the first endpage. The front hinge has come loose as it approaches the top of the book. The overall binding of the book is a bit loose.
