Made by Richards, Inc. of New York, this PGA compression tester measures 15 inches in height and is Very Heavy.  Such testers were used by ball manufacturers to monitor production.   The smaller tubular tester was marketed by Acushnet to individual golfers.  It’s handle includes a perfectly round hole the exact size of a golf ball.  If the ball is out of round, it won’t fit through.  Length is 7 ½ inches.  The golf ball shown in the device is for demonstration purposes and is not included in this lot.

The Titleist tester worked fine.  The PGA tester “worked” one time in that, when I tested a ball the needle moved from pointing down, as it is shown in the images on the site, to pointing close to straight up. But the needle would not reset back to "0" in order to test the next ball.

I tried fiddling with the two screws on the top of the device and neither caused the needle to release.  But I suspect that having moved the needle once, that the needle can move and there is probably a fix if a mechanically inclined person took the thing apart.  However, the big handle/lever works fine, and it will compress a golf ball with ease. In its entirety, this is a wonderful display item as is.  It just that the needle will not reset to register the compression. Either that or I do not know how to get it to reset.....
