This mashie niblick has a distinctly concave, top to bottom, "dished" face that is clearly visible. The face has a dot punch pattern, and a bit of the lettering on the back has worn away as can be seen in the photographs. It was thought by some that the concave face would impart more backspin by helping the ball roll up the face.
The legible writing includes the "Protected Patent "number 683488, which is a British design registration number that dates to mid-1921. (TCA2 V2 P688).
It is also possible to make out the words "Miller / Glasgow" which likely refers to Charles Miller, a clubmaker around that same era located in Glasgow.
