Bernard Darwin's book The Golf Courses of the British isles is 254 pages illustrated with 64 color plates from paintings by Harry Rountree; printed tissue-guards. 9" x 7", original gilt-lettered & stamped green cloth, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. 1910 First Edition. Darwin's famous book covers the courses of Scotland, England and Ireland.

While the binding is still intact, there some water damage to the edge of the front cover of the book. In addition, there is some light water staining to the edge of some of the early pages in the book, which also have a light amount of foxing. The half-title page and illustration page opposite the title page in the front of the book are detached, but will lay neatly in place. Condition as shown in the images.

Author Bernard Darwin was not only the eldest grandson of the famous Charles Darwin but also a superb golf writer and notable amateur golfer. He was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame in 2005.

The book features courses found in the following areas: London, Kent, Sussex, West, South-West, East Anglia, Cheshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cambridge, St. Andrews, Fife, Forfarshire, East Lothian, Edinburgh, Prestwick, Ireland, and Wales. It also includes approximately 60 illustrations of these early courses, as painted by Harry Rountree, a popular illustrator who particularly loved golf art.
