This McEwan short spoon is a sweetheart of a club!  It not only has a beautfiul head shape, with a lofted and nicely hooked face, everything about it is untouched, including the light remains of dirt on the face and the sole from the few times this club was used.  Its as if the golfer put the club away one day, and the next day it's here! Everything is original. The McEwan stamp is strong.  The club shows minimal use.  If only all clubs could be found in this condition!

The 38 1/2" hickory shaft and sheepskin grip are original.  The head measures 1 1/16" in face depth, 2" in width, and 5 1/2" in length.The two lead buttons on the sole are original.  

The McEwan family is among the top clubmakers of the 19th century.  "As Hugh Philp was to St. Andrews, so was the firm of McEwan & Son to Edinburgh and Musselburgh." (Golf 25, Sept. 1895, p51).  indeed, the McEwan family was central to the world of clubmaking from 1770, when James McEwan opened for business, to the end of the nineteenth century, when long nose clubs were rendered obsolete. Across that 120 year span, five generations of the McEwans produced long nose clubs of the highest quality.
