David Anderson, the son of "Old Da'" a well-known St. Andrews golf personality who was once a clubmaker himself, was making clubs in St. Andrews by 1893.  This c.1895 D. Anderson utter has an unusually chunky semi-long nose head that measures 5" in length, 2 1/8" in width, and a much deeper than normal 1 3/8" face depth.

The head is in beautiful, tight condition.  The original finish and name stamp are both still strong.  The head has been reshafted at some point, most likely when it was in use. It's 37 1/2" shaft is stamped "Frank Sugg, Liverpool" and has a wonderful old sheepskin grip.

In tandem with its 37 1/2" length, the exceedingly deep face allowed this club to function as a driving putter.  The head is also exceedingly heavy, which could easily explain why it needed to be reshafted. Such a heavy head can put added stress on a shaft during the swing as well as at impact and thereby cause it to break.

What a heavy beast of a putter! It's on the far left in the accompanying 9-putter image.
