Andrew Herd Scott was both a fine
golfer and clubmaker! His Unbreakable Neck brassie offered
here was patented in 1895, with Scott describing the unique joint as
such: "The shaft, which tapers towards one end, is formed square of
rectangular in cross section at that part and enters a correspondingly
shaped recess in the neck and head of the club, the said shaft passing
right through same to the sole...By this means a joint is made that is
practically unbreakable, while it also gives more spring to the head and
consequently greater power to the stroke, thereby enabling a ball to be
driven further than with an ordinary club..."
The original 42 1/2" shaft is stamped "A.H. Scott Patent No. 21444"
and still has original sheepskin grip. The forked shaft is visible down the entire back of the neck to the soleplate as well as on the front of the neck below the whipping. Club is in excellent original condition as shown in photos.
