The pewter lid on this 1.5 Liter Steinis engraved "II. Schiöth Preis 1911." Fortunately. The auctioneer has never seen such a stein as this one, so the engraving tells us that the stein was made no later than 1911, and for a German individual named Schioth Preis. The stein is exceptionally large and heavy. It appears to be stonewear. The only marks on the base are "1951" and "14". These could be pattern numbers, production numbers, model numbers, series numbers, who knows what numbers.
This is piece is not only fun, it is strong and dramatic. It will stand out in any collection.
The golf ball in the accompanying images is not part of this lot. It is included to show size perspective. The stein measures approximately 11 1/4" tall, to the top of the thumb pull.
This lot is in the accompanying group image.
