Among the most popular golf collectibles is the giant niblick. Even
non-golfers view it in amazement as its size is so eye-catching. Giant
niblicks were produced primarily during the 1920s, and they can be found with some consistency. However left-handed giant niblicks are exceedingly rare, which makes this club a a true prize.
This example was
made by Cochrane, and has Cochrane's Bowline knot cleekmark on the back
of the head which is also stamped "Mammoth Niblick, Made in Scotland,
Warranted Hand Forged, Fort Mason Picadilly London". The face depth
measures 3 1/2 inches, which is a healthy face depth as giant
niblicks go. The shaft and grip are original and the head shows little
use. A great club! With a lovely "rounded" head.
See the previous lot for a "matching" right-handed version of this club that beaers the exact same stamps.
