The thick, large brass soleplate, affixed by seven screws, on the sole made this a club designed for heavy duty and challenging lies. But, fortunately for us, it was called into service very little.  The club is in outstanding original condition—even the sheepskin grip has its original whipping top and bottom. The shaft is stamped "R. Forgan and Son, St. Andrews".  The R. Forgan and Prince of Wales stamp on the crown are clean and strong.
Dating circa 1885, this brassey spoon was made near the end of the long nose era.

Measuring 5 1/2" in head length, 1 1/4" in face depth, 2" front to back, and 43" in overall length, this Robert Forgan brassey spoon is a brilliant club!

When he made this club, Robert Forgan was the clubmaker to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, hence the POW stamp.  For more on Forgan and his prominent role in the history of clubmaking, see TCA2 v1 p70-74.
