Kenneth Reed makes great art! The auctioneer has owned and sold a half dozen of Kenneth's pieces in years past and is thrilled to be able to offer an original watercolor of his in this auction. This painitng is in its original frame, which is quite large, measuring 39" x 31 inches (I include a foot-long ruler in the second image to help provide a sense of size). Watercolor has the reputation of being difficult, especially if the artist is trying to be a realist of sorts. Reed, however, is truly amazing.

When I spend time and examine not just the intricate detail of the large buildings on the left side of the painting, but how the buildings gradually become smaller as they progress to the right side of the painting, transitioning to cottages and barns and then to a sliver of land at the extreme right, I am left speechless. His perspectives, control, and realism are magnificent. And that is just a few of the incredible elements in this expansive, magnificent work.  The undulations of the course in the foreground, the expansive sky, the rich blending remnants of a sunset, and the colors and natural beauty of the landscape all speak to a master at his craft.

Kenneth Reed, whose paintings have been commissioned by such golfing greats as Gary Player, Bob Charles, Greg Norman and Tom Weiskopt for their own homes, and whose clients include the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the United States Golf Association, is widely acclaimed as one of the international golf community's finest artists.

Since 1972 he has been creating the evocative paintings of golf course landscapes which have included such venues as Augusta, Pinehurst and Pebble Beach, and his paintings grace the walls of many historic clubhouses such as Sunningdale, Wentworth and Royal Troon.

A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts since 1962, and for over 25 years pursuing an academic career in parallel with that in golf art, such was the demand for his services that in 1996 he dedicated his skills full time to interpreting golf's wonderful landscapes.

The Macrihanish Golf Club at the southern tip of the Mull of Kintyre, is a world-class Scottish links course. Because it is located on a peninsula, well away from the Scottish mainland, it remains an unsung Scottish treasure.

One final point.  A Kenneth Reed golf course landscape today would cost much, much more that what this beautiful painting is being offered for.
