Taylor on Golf: Impressions, Comments and Hints by J. H. (John Henry) Taylor, 1st Edition 1902 London: Hutchinson & Co.; illustrated with 48 plates from photographs, including frontispiece with Taylor’s Grip.  Gilt title and tooling to the spine and front panel. Some foxing to the end pages and page edges, otherwise outstanding!

According to Donovan and Jerris in the book The Game of Golf and The Printed Word, "The legendary English professional J.H. Taylor, a member of the so-called Great Triumvirate with Harry Vardon and James braid, was born in Devon in 1871.  Taylor won the British Open five times between 1894 and 1913.  He was also co-founder and first chairman of the British Professional Golfers’ Association. The first decade of the twentieth century witnessed the publication of the first substantial books of golf instruction by the game’s greatest players.  'Taylor on Golf' was likely the first of this genre, although it also included significant content beyond the arena of instruction.

This volume has one of the most attractive covers/spine ever created during the wood shaft era. Consequently, a person can really enjoy this book without actually opening its cover. ;)

The sand tee molds used to hold the book open are not included with this lot, but are available as their own lot in this auction.
