Chick Evans’ Golf Book: The Story of The Sporting Battles of The Greatest of All Amateur Golfers by Chick Evans 1st Edition 1921, Chicago, Illinois: Thos. E. Wilson, cloth 343 p, This autobiography of Chick Evans is illustrated with beautiful historic black and white photographs, which were taken from Evans personal collection. They include pictures of Harold Hilton, Harry Vardon, Bobby Jones, Francis Ouimet, and courses such as Merion, Pine Valley, and Oakmont.

"Chick Evans’ competitive career spanned more than fifty years.  He began winning local tournaments at the age of 17, and posted his first significant victory in 1909 at the Western Amateur, a championship he would win eight times.  His resume also included the Western Open in 1910; the French Amateur and North and south Amateur in 1911; Western Amateur titles in 1912, 1914 and 1915.  In 1916, he became the first player to secure the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open titles in the same year.  In 1920 he won the U.S. Amateur again.  For a period of fifteen years, Evans was among the elite players in America, amateur or professional. Had he not run into Bob Jones, who soon replaced Evans as the premier amateur in the game, his career might have been even more remarkable.  Evans’ autobiography, “Chick Evans’ Golf book” hailing the author as the “greatest of All Amateur Golfers,” was published two years before Jones began his impressive run of major championships." – Donovan & Jerris in The Game of Golf and The Printed Word 1566-2005.

After Evans retired from the game he founded the Evans Scholarship Fund, which, since it was created in 1930, has sent of 11,000 young caddies to college.

When originally sold, this book had a dust jacket.  Only the front and back flaps remain, as shown in one image. The book itself is clean, in great condition.

The sand tee mold used to hold the book open is not included with this lot, but is available as its own lot in this auction.
