Willie Dunn's Stars and Stripes ball was covered under a US patent (27,441) issued on July 27, 1897. The ball is made from solid gutta percha and is marked in such a way as to reflect the American Flag. It was available only at Dunn's shop on Madison Avenue in New York City or through mail order. Few remain.
Willie Dunn's Stars and Stripes ball is among THE most desirable golf balls there is. One recently sold at auction for over $36,000. This example is comparable—it is unused, with only minor chipping to the original paint.
I have included an image of the cover of Kevin McGimpsey's "The Story of the Golf
Ball." Notice the beautiful Stars and Stripes ball. To create his cover
shot, McGimpsey went for the most interesting and valuable balls in
existence.
