in 1969, Ping introduced the "Karsten l" with its cast, perimeter weighted head. The Karsten l was Ping's first mass produced iron set and it took the market by storm.

Two years earlier, to prep for his first mass produced irons, Karsten produced 300 sets of cavity back "Ping Anser" irons.  These heads were forged, not cast, and his son Allan milled out the back of every one.  Each head has a number in the back cavity to assist in assembling the clubs to the correct weight.

The set of forged 1967 Ping Anser irons offered here consists of a 3 through PW. Their is some light pitting to the heads and the back cavities are all marked "128" except for the 6-iron which is stamped "62".  Nevertheless, it is nigh unto a perfect fit as it matches in shaft, length, and grip, the rest of the clubs in this set.  If the clubs were not numbered, there would be no indication the set had 1 club inserted from another set.

The shafts are original, and a couple of original Ping shaft bands remain. The auctioneer believes the grips might be original as well, noting the trim rings at the bottom of each grip except for the 5-iron.

Overall, this is a decent set of extremely rare and important clubs.
