Stamped "Auchterlonie" in capital letters along part of its equator, this solid gutty ball shows little use. One is left to ponder if this ball was marked for use by the 1893 Open champ Willie or one of his brothers or marked for sale in the Auchterlonie shop. I will say that individual name stamps like this are typically installed by the owner. Of the brothers, Willie was possibly the most likely to have used a ball bearing his name given his prominence. Whatever the backgound of the name stamped on the ball, any ball stamped with the Aucterlonie name is a rare bird.
