This set of 2 through PW SS1 irons have copper faces and split level backs, which is not normal for MacGregor's copper face irons. Such irons were not offered for retail sale in the US. The auctioneer believes these were made for the Canadian market, if not a custom set of some kind. Normal copper face Armour SS1's have a diamond back as shown on the 1 iron offered as lot 139.
The original shafts, shaft bands, leather-wrap grips, and ferrules all match. The clubs are in excellent condition and only a few trim rings are missing, as shown in the images. Overall, the copper faces look great with the exception of the 9 and PW, which do show some wear to the copper low on the face.
These irons were consigned with the set of Tommy Armour SS1W Velocitized woods also in this auction. The auctioneer believes these clubs were purchased together and has never heard of another such set. The irons have the step down Silver Scot Model blade backs offered in their 1965 US retail catalog. The copper faces were offered in 1958, as were velocitized woods. Again, this set is obviously not a normal US retail set.
