This brassie is an early Bulger style marked “McEwan” on the crown and “D McEwan & Son, Musselburgh” on the shaft. This small, compact head has a face that is convex from heel to toe and is termed a “bulger.” Bulgers were developed and introduced by Henry Lamb beginning in 1888. His design quickly took over the golf world and rendered long nose clubs obsolete. (TCA2 V1 p108). This club has a splice neck and a full brass solepate. A superb all-original example of this historic model.
